Brahmakshatriyas ruled over large parts of Parasurama's country. To avenge the murder of his father, Parashurama made the earth empty of Kshatriyas 21 times.

The word Akshay means that which has no decay. This tritiya tithi is undecayed. That is, whose fruits never perish. On Akshaya Tritiya, the construction of Jagannath's Rath Yatra began in Puri.
